Window in the studio, 1889 Vincent van Gogh
Van Gogh is possibly my favorite painter and what I love about his work is the comfortable and lively feel all of his work has. I believe part of that feeling comes from his loose sketchy style. What drew me to this still life of his is his approach to the smaller items in the piece and the overall warm tone of the colors. The lack of detail on the small items allows the viewer to take in the entire piece at once so it gives more of an "in the moment" feel as opposed to a simple stationary view of the room.

Still life - created by friiskiwi
I truly love this painting... I love the reflection on the kettle; this painting is a perfect composition. I think this painting shows how shape, color, and form are very important! This painting is surreal and beautiful!

A few still-life paintings
This first one is untitled and it was painted by George Oliver Haney.
This painting is called "Sugar and Vice" by Craig Shillam.
Seeing how the different colors reflect off the jar is really cool. The way the colors reflect off the jar to mix with the other colors is really interesting as well. Also, primary colors are my favorite colors, and this painting is reminiscent of a Mondrian painting.
As with the previous painting, this one has bright popping colors that really catch the eye. Getting all the glass reflections and gumballs perfect must have been a challenge.
