westerfield, allison; discussion of landscape; "a field of poppies" monet
I chose this one to discuss because it really helps me focus on the landscapes I'm doing. I have been really stressed that my landscapes just look like blobs of green and "A field of poppies" as well as some of the other landscapes help me understand that it is a process in how you lay down the paint that creates the image. In this Monet piece there is not extreme detail, which I think is where I am loosing myself, it is like John keeps saying with the squinting of the eyes. I think this piece is a perfect example of the squinting of the eyes idea and represents a great landscape with great brush-stroke but not a huge emphasis on large detail, like the veins in the leaves.

Monet has always been my favorite! The way he applies paint is so gestural and free, something I do not find innate. Looking at his work and paying attention to the way he depicts light is thought provoking and enchanting. His use of color and composition are engaging.
