At first glance, I automatically assumed this was digital. Now that I know it is a painting, my respect and appreciation for this piece is 10 times greater than it was before. The solid, clean lines as well as the precision of the pointillism effect in the shadows are the details that impress me the most about this painting. The flowers in the background, however, are just as entertaining to see due to the interplay between positive and negative space. While it definitely challenges the traditional sense of the term, I would go ahead and call it a still-life painting anyway, mainly because it does feature a still-life and it is a painting (painted with with pigment).
